Privacy Policy

Effective date: April 15, 2026 · Last updated: April 2026

1. Overview

SmokeClock ("we", "our", or "the app") is an iOS application that helps users gradually reduce and quit smoking. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data is collected, how it is used, and your rights as a user.

Short version: your smoking plan and progress stay entirely on your device. The only data we collect is anonymous usage analytics (which screens you view, which actions you take) to help us improve the app. We never sell your data and we never link it to your identity.

2. Data stored on your device

The following data is stored exclusively on your iPhone using Apple's SwiftData framework:

  • Your smoking plan (daily cigarette count, target quit date)
  • Your schedule preferences (wake time, bed time)
  • Pack price and quantity (used to calculate your savings)
  • Smoking events you log within the app
  • Your progress history

This data never leaves your device. It is not uploaded to any server, cloud, or third party.

3. Home screen widget

SmokeClock includes an optional home screen widget. To display data in the widget, the app uses Apple's App Group mechanism — a shared local storage area between the app and the widget extension. This data is stored on your device only and is never transmitted.

4. Purchases

In-app purchases (weekly subscription and lifetime access) are processed entirely by Apple via StoreKit. We do not handle, store, or have access to your payment information. Please refer to Apple's Privacy Policy for details on how Apple handles purchase data.

5. Analytics

SmokeClock uses Mixpanel to understand how people use the app so we can improve the onboarding flow, identify bugs, and prioritise new features.

What Mixpanel receives:

  • Anonymous product-interaction events (for example: which onboarding step you viewed, when you completed setup, which feature you tapped)
  • An anonymous device-level identifier (a random UUID generated on first launch) used only to group events from the same installation
  • Basic technical metadata attached to each event by the Mixpanel SDK (app version, iOS version, device model, approximate region inferred from IP)

What Mixpanel never receives:

  • Your name, email, or any account identifier — SmokeClock has no user accounts
  • Your smoking plan, logs, or health-related data
  • Your precise location
  • Payment details

The analytics data is not linked to your real-world identity and is not used to track you across other apps or websites. We do not share this data with advertisers or data brokers. For details on how Mixpanel handles data on our behalf, see Mixpanel's Privacy Policy.

If you prefer not to send any analytics, email us at hello@smokeclock.com and we will remove your data on request.

6. Notifications

If you grant permission, SmokeClock sends local push notifications to remind you of your scheduled cigarettes. These notifications are generated on your device and do not involve any server communication.

7. Children's privacy

SmokeClock is not intended for users under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect any data from minors.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
