About SmokeClock

Who built this app, why, and how we treat health information.

Why SmokeClock exists

Most quit-smoking advice you'll find online tells you to stop cold turkey. The research is mixed: cold turkey works for some people, but gradual reduction works for many others — and for most heavy smokers, an abrupt stop fails within a week. SmokeClock was built around that observation: a free iPhone app that schedules your cigarettes throughout the day and slowly stretches the gap between them, until you reach zero on a date you choose.

No willpower theatre. No premium plan locked behind paywalls. Just a timer and a plan you can stick to.

Who I am

My name is Josep Salvat. I'm an independent iOS developer based in Spain. I built SmokeClock after watching people close to me struggle with cold-turkey approaches that didn't fit their life or smoking pattern.

I'm not a doctor. SmokeClock is not medical advice. The app implements a gradual-reduction schedule that mirrors patterns described in published smoking-cessation literature, but it does not replace consultation with a healthcare professional, and it is not a regulated medical device.

Editorial standards

Every health-related claim on this site is backed by a primary source — typically the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the UK National Health Service (NHS), the World Health Organization (WHO), the American Cancer Society, or peer-reviewed research indexed in PubMed.

When you see a statistic on this site, the source is linked inline. We follow these rules:

  • No anecdotal claims presented as universal facts
  • No "cures" — quitting smoking is a process, not a single event
  • Outdated sources (>5 years old, except foundational research) are flagged or replaced
  • If we're wrong, email hello@smokeclock.com and we'll update or retract
