How Much Do Quit Smoking Apps Cost? 8 Apps Priced Side by Side

Short answer: almost none of them are free. Of the eight most downloaded quit smoking and quit vaping apps on iPhone, only EasyQuit works without paying, and it shows ads. The rest charge between $0.99 a week and $20.99 a month, and several weekly plans add up to more than the cigarettes or pouches you are trying to quit. The table lists every price as it appears in the US App Store on 13 September 2026, and the yearly cost of the plan most people end up on.

"Typical cost per year" uses the yearly plan where one exists, otherwise twelve months of the highest listed monthly price, or the one-time price. Weekly plans are shown but not annualised in that column; $9.99 a week is about $519 a year.

What the one-star reviews say about pricing

We read 86 one-star and two-star App Store reviews of these apps. Forty-one of them are about money, and they repeat four complaints:

  • 1"Says free, then charges." The listing says free, the onboarding asks for your habit and your email, and the paywall appears at the end. Sum Puff, Quit Vaping, Smoke Free and Kwit collect most of these.
  • 2Weekly plans that cost more than the habit. "$10 a week is more than I spend on vapes" appears in several Sum Puff reviews. Weekly billing is the most expensive way to pay for any of these apps.
  • 3Paying twice. Kwit and QuitNow! users report losing a purchase after reinstalling or moving from Android to iPhone, and being asked to subscribe again.
  • 4Trials that charge anyway. Cancelling a trial and still being billed, or a "no trial" annual charge at signup, shows up for Despark's Smoke Free and Stepdown.

How to read a quit smoking app's price before you download

  • Open the App Store listing and scroll to In-App Purchases. Every price the app can charge is listed there, including the ones the paywall does not show you first.
  • Multiply weekly prices by 52 and monthly by 12. Compare that number, not the headline.
  • Prefer apps that state the price before onboarding. If you have to enter your habit and email to see the price, the design is optimised for the paywall, not for you.
  • Check whether a one-time purchase exists. Lifetime access at $30 to $60 is cheaper than any weekly plan within a few months.
  • Check what the free tier actually does. A counter that only shows days since your quit date is not a quit plan.

What SmokeClock costs, stated plainly

SmokeClock is a subscription. The App Store listing and this page say so before you download. The paywall offers two choices: $2.99 a week (€2.99 in the eurozone, £2.99 in the UK) with no trial, or $49.99 once for lifetime access (€59.99, £49.99). An annual plan at $39.99 with a three-day trial exists in some configurations. There is no ad-supported tier. Your plan and history live on your iPhone with no account, so a reinstall cannot lose a purchase: Apple restores it from your Apple ID. If you only want to see what your cigarette schedule would look like, the smoking timer calculator on this site is free and needs no download.

Frequently asked questions

Are quit smoking apps free?

Most are free to download and charge inside the app. Of the eight compared here, only EasyQuit is usable without paying (with ads). The others limit the free tier to a counter or a short trial, then ask for a weekly, monthly or yearly subscription.

Which quit smoking app is cheapest?

EasyQuit Pro at $4.99 one-time is the cheapest paid option, but it is Android-first. On iPhone, SmokeClock's $39.99 a year or $49.99 lifetime and QuitNow!'s $16.99 to $34.99 a year are the lowest yearly costs; weekly plans from Sum Puff, Kwit and Quit Vaping cost far more over a year.

Why do quit smoking apps charge weekly?

Weekly plans look cheap at the moment of purchase and cost the most over time: $9.99 a week is about $519 a year. Check the yearly equivalent before you subscribe, and prefer apps that state the price before you enter your details.
